Far Cry 6 deathloop bug: How to fix softlock

A very unfortunate bug is resulting in a softlock for Far Cry 6 players. It’s being referred to as the deathloop bug because players are getting stuck in a loop where they constantly die. As soon as the game loads, boom: dead. This is clearly a problem the team at Ubisoft will have to work out, but is there a short-term fix? As it turns out, yes. Thanks reports from the players themselves, there is a working solution for this frustrating problem.

According to numerous player reports, the deathloop bug in Far Cry 6 can be fixed by playing co-op. Specifically, you need to invite another player to your game — joining theirs may not work. After playing co-op for a while, the deathloop should be broken, and you can go back to playing the solo campaign.

This fix comes by way of the Far Cry subreddit. Though there are a lot of posts about the bug, there’s one specific post from user VR_Techy with over 120 comments. There, players report that inviting another player into a co-op session fixed the deathloop bug.

Of course, it’s never quite that simple. Some players are reporting that this solution doesn’t work for reasons unknown. However, digging into comments, there’s strong evidence that you can’t simply join co-op. You must invite another player to your game. Even then, the two of you may still get softlocked and die in a loop for a while. But give it some time, and may a few retries, and the bug should disappear.

Granted, these are only workarounds. The deathloop bug is clearly the result of a problem with the Far Cry 6 software. As such, there’s nothing players themselves can do to fix it. Nor should there be any expectation for them to. Ubisoft will have to sort this one out and issue a patch before the problem goes away. At the time of this writing, the latest patch released on October 14.

For now, you can fix the deathloop bug in Far Cry 6 by inviting another player to join a co-op session. Remember, you must invite them, not the other way around, or you won’t be able to break the loop. If you need to find someone you can invite to your session, you may be able to find some sympathetic players over on the Far Cry subreddit. And if you find another working solution, let other players know in the comments below.
