Star Trek Discovery Season 5 Release Date Rumors Plot Cast Leaks News

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Confirmed or Canceled?: Release Date Rumors, Plot, Cast, Leaks, News, and More

In the volatile world of steaming original series, fans are right to wonder if Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 will get a release date or if it’s canceled. Obviously, Paramount is investing a lot of money into Star Trek, but these days you never know when something’s going to get put on the chopping block. Below, we’ll look at the future of Star Trek: Discovery, including potential release dates, the plot, returning cast, leaks, and more.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 release date rumors: Is it confirmed or canceled?

Star Trek: Discovery was renewed for a fifth season in January 2022, according to Deadline. None of the new wave of Star Trek series have been canceled, so we can assume they’re pulling decent numbers. However, Paramount hasn’t released its streaming stats, so we don’t know for sure how Discovery compares to other previous or current Star Trek series.

No Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 release date has been announced yet, but based on previous seasons, we can assume it’ll release sometime in October or November 2022. We can also assume it’ll be 13 episodes as we saw with the previous two seasons, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed. We don’t know yet if the season will play straight through or take a break like seasons one and four did.

What’s the plot for season 5?

Michael Burnham has saved the galaxy once a season so far, so who knows what the writers will do to up the ante for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5. We don’t know what precisely the story will be about, but producer Olatunde Osunsanmi gave Screenrant a bit of a hint in the below statement:

“The galaxy’s a big place where incredible things can happen. Season 5 is shaping up to be… all I can say is that – it’s not time travel – but we go back into the past to get further into the future. There’s this old version of Star Trek that exists. And this new version that’s been created by Alex but there’s a lot of things we still love about the old version. So it’s about pulling from there… not necessarily stories or characters but more themes, and process, and how those stories are told, and applying it to what we do in the future. And that includes Burnham’s character and things she does as a Captain.”

At the conclusion of the fourth season, the Federation has grown stronger with Ni’Var (Vulcan) and Earth rejoining. With Tellar Prime never leaving the Federation, the fate of only one of the union’s founding members is in doubt, Andoria. Perhaps season five will have lower stakes and center around the Discovery and her crew reconnecting with more former Federation members (and possibly becoming friends with former foes).

There weren’t any major deaths in the fourth season, so we can assume that most, if not all, of the starring roles, co-stars, and some of the guest stars will be returning.
