The new Spider-Man 2 trailer villain appeared in the beginning of the new in-depth trailer that was showcased at the end of the 2023 PlayStation Showcase. The man didn’t say his name, but he’s been identified as Kraven the Hunter. But unless you’re a Spider-Man fan, you may not know who this character is. Here’s everything you need to know about the Kraven the Hunter before Spider-Man 2 launches on PS5 in Fall 2023.
Who is the new Spider-Man 2 villain Kraven the Hunter?
Kraven the Hunter, otherwise known as Sergei Dimitri Symostivych Kravinoff, is a long-running villain in the Marvel universe who first debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man comics back in 1964 and is one of the founding members of the Sinister Six, along with Doctor Octopus, Sandman, and a few other villains. A new Marvel movie called “Kraven the Hunter” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be arriving some time in 2023.
Kraven sees Spider-Man as a creature that needs to be caught like some animal of prey in the wilds and wants to capture him to prove that he is indeed the world’s best big-game hunter. That said, he still holds himself with a sense of honor and so he’s been put in the role of an anti-hero in several arcs in the comics, though it looks like he’s a full-blown villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
In the trailer, Kraven the Hunter mocks an unnamed man who stabs his knife at a ragged piece of cloth, seemingly thinking that it was a person. The man tries to stab Kraven when he turns around, but the villain easily chokes him and snaps his neck. He then chastises his team for not finding a worthy opponent, making them suggest that he seek out superheroes and even supervillains instead as possible targets instead. The tablet he holds quickly scrolls through several, including Black Cat, Tombstone, Prowler, Wraith, Taskmaster, and of course both Spider-Man heroes.
From the PlayStation blog post on the newly revealed gameplay trailer for the game, a new enemy faction called Kraven’s Hunters is trying to find The Lizard or Dr. Curt Connors. Peter Parker will have to prevent this Great Hunt from happening, though Kraven has plenty of firepower including multiple boats and aerial transports. Meanwhile, both Peter Parker and Miles Morales also have to contend with a new Symbiote threat.
