Halls of Torment Controls: How to Use Keyboard, Mouse, and Controller

The Halls of Torment controls can be complicated, whether you use a keyboard, mouse, or controller. The game developed by Chasing Carrots is currently in Early Access, but it has steadily climbed the charts on Steam with “Overwhelmingly Positive” review from users. It can be best described as Vampire Survivors with a classic Diablo aesthetic, though the controls are a bit different than Vampire Survivors. Here’s a quick breakdown of the controls for Halls of Torment.

Halls of Torment controls for keyboard, mouse, and controller

Here are the options for Halls of Torment controls using either the keyboard and mouse, or a controller:

  • Keyboard and Mouse:
    • WASD: Movement,
    • Mouse: Aim
    • Left Mouse Button: Attack
    • Right Mouse Button: Toggle auto-attack.
    • R to Toggle auto-aim
  • Controller
    • Left Analog Stick: Move
    • Right Analog Stick: Aim
    • Right Trigger: Attack
    • Y or Triangle: Toggle auto-attack
    • R3: Toggle auto-aim

That said, if you’re using a controller, you are not locked into the auto-aim feature even if it’s turned on. That is, you can still target other enemies even with auto-aim.

Between the two control methods, a controller will allow for a much broader range of movement compared to the eight directions for WASD on the keyboard. However, the mouse will make it easier to lock onto an enemy and target it with concentrated fire. So it’s up to you which control scheme gives you the most command over your character.

In most cases, you’ll want the auto-attack toggle on regardless of your chosen control scheme. The only exception is a build that uses items that reward you for not attacking, but most of the time you’ll want to have high DPS.
