Halls of Torment Audio Crackling Bug Issue

Halls of Torment Audio Crackling Bug: How to Fix Sound Issue

A persistent Halls of Torment audio crackling bug continues to affect players. This sound issue has been reported to developer Chasing Carrots since the game launched in May 24 on Steam Early Access, but it is still giving players problems. Sometimes, after playing the game for several minutes, the sound and music starts to stutter. The crackling audio bug particularly impacts those who are using a Focusrite audio interface. Here are some solutions to fix sound issues with Halls of Torment.

How to fix Halls of Torment audio crackling bug

To fix any issues with crackling audio in Halls of Torment, you can try the following solutions:

  • Change sample rate to 44100 – In the particular sound device settings for your setup, make sure that the sample rate is changed to 44100.
  • Change sound format from 16-bit to 24-bit – You can also change it back from 24-bit to 16-bit to fix the issue.
  • Turn mono and spatial audio off
  • Try the Audiofix beta version – If you right-click on the Halls of Torment game in the Steam library, you can go to the Betas tab and type in “Audiofix”. This is a beta the developers created to test audio issues.

The first three solutions on the list are mainly temporary fixes. So you may need to use them multiple times if the audio begins to crack again.

A developer named “Mara | Aayph” on the official Steam forum for the game has addressed the issue. The issue seems to be with the Godot engine, and they hope to upgrade the engine to 4.1 once it’s more stable. They say that the crackling audio is due to players using “higher settings than the Windows (or Linux) defaults.” Another common source of the issue are latency settings and bitrates.
