Is Diablo 4 Worth Playing After Season 1 Update

Is Diablo 4 Still Worth Buying and Playing After the Season 1 Update?

Many are wondering if Diablo 4 is still worth buying and playing after the Season 1 update. This patch threw the community into chaos, resulting in a major backlash from the player base. Many were still on the fence about purchasing the game due to how Blizzard has handled its live service titles in the past, which means there’s a lot of money on the line. So, should potential customers believe the hype, or is Diablo 4 still worth playing?

Is Diablo 4 still worth playing after the Season 1 update?

If Blizzard doesn’t roll back most of the changes from the Season 1 update, Diablo 4 isn’t worth playing. The experience as a whole has suffered from the massive nerfs to every aspect of player power. It’s obvious that retention metrics weren’t met after launch, and instead of adding more content to improve the sparse endgame, the devs decided to slow the whole game to a crawl.

More Diablo 4 guides

So, basically, as a result of the Season 1 patch:

  • It takes longer to kill enemies.
  • Your character has less defense and dies easier.
  • Overall, cooldowns take longer.
  • You must be level 50 for World Tier 3 and 70 for World Tier 4 instead of those just being the recommended levels.
  • You get less XP from almost every source.
  • Every class is worse, and Sorcerers are almost unplayable in the endgame.

As for what content was added, we have the following:

  • Malignant Hearts
  • Six new Unique Items
  • New NPC: Cormand
  • Season of the Malignant story content
  • Season 1 Battle Pass

All of the Season of the Malignant content is supposed to stretch over three months. Obviously, Blizzard is doing its best to wring every second out of players, so you have to start a completely new character for the season. It’s sure to be frustrating for those who have already reached the endgame once, and I can’t imagine it’ll be great for new players. So, until some positive changes are made, I don’t see that Diablo 4 is worth the $70 price of admission.
