Mortal Kombat 1 Krypt: Is There a Krypt Mode?

The Mortal Kombat Krypt has been a staple in the series since 2002’s Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. It has offered players a way to unlock bonus or secret content for over two decades. But Mortal Kombat 1 is a new game in a new timeline so not everything is a given. Here’s whether there is a Mortal Kombat 1 Krypt or not.

Mortal Kombat 1 does not have a traditional Krypt like past entries. There is no big area you can go into and spend your hard-earned currencies on various coffins or chests. This is quite different from Mortal Kombat 11, which had the biggest Krypt ever that played more like a 3D adventure game.

However, some of the Krypt’s functions still live on in Mortal Kombat 1. There is a Dragon Shrine that you can pay 1,000 Koins to and get a random piece of concept art, skin, gear item, or some other cosmetic in the game. This shrine is on the main menu under Extras. Unlike the Naknadan Shrine in Mortal Kombat 11, you can only put 1,000 Koins in this one; no more and no less. Plenty of gear unlocks automatically by playing through the campaign, as well.

Mortal Kombat 1 Krypt: Is There a Krypt Mode?

The Invasions mode also serves as some sort of quasi-Krypt. This mode shuffles through different seasons every couple months and is an adventure mode where players go through numerous fights through a top-down map that is from one of the areas in the game. Invasions holds secret chests and many different types of gear and cosmetics for those who plunder its depths.

The unlocks are more based on progression and not through spending Koins, though. And given that Invasions has its own seasons, this makes it an ever-shifting version of the Krypt, as well.
