Mortal Kombat 1 Kronika: Is She in MK1?

Mortal Kombat 1 Kronika: Is She in MK1?

Many have wondered if there is a Mortal Kombat 1 Kronika roster slot just waiting to be uncovered. The game did launch with a blank spot in its character select screen, after all. She also appeared to be in some of the trailers, and Mortal Kombat villains often show up in future entries. So is Kronika in MK1?

Is Kronika in MK1?

Kronika is not in Mortal Kombat 1, but the definition of that is a little loose and might be confusing. The character that looks like Kronika goes by Damashi. Jennifer Hale voices both Damashi and Kronika, too.

More Mortal Kombat 1

Damashi was previously in the Konquest mode of Mortal Kombat: Deception, who, as the title implies, deceived the protagonist Shujinko. Damashi was just a disguise for Onaga, one of the big antagonists for the series. Mortal Kombat 1’s Damashi is not the same character and is seemingly just a nod to it; another way this timeline is winking and nodding to the 3D era of the series.

And while it seems like Damashi could be just a nickname for Kronika, as it was a nickname for Onaga, Damashi reveals that they are actually just Shang Tsung in disguise. It is the Shang Tsung from the end of Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath DLC.

Players were given a choice at the end of that expansion and both are now canon. Liu Kang’s ending continued straight into Mortal Kombat 1’s timeline, whereas Shang Tsung’s branched into a different timeline. Using the power of the almighty Hourglass, Shang Tsung was able to jump into Mortal Kombat 1’s timeline.

While Shang Tsung never directly says it, it seems like he was merely disguising himself as Kronika and calling himself Damashi. No one even refers to Damashi as Kronika or (aside from Geras, Liu Kang, and Mortal Kombat 11’s Shang Tsung) knows who Kronika is.

The real Kronika probably won’t make an actual cameo in MK1, either. As Geras states, Titans can’t come back once they are “destroyed.”

MK1 Kronika FAQ

Q: Was Kronika included in the Mortal Kombat 1 roster?

A: No, Kronika is not part of Mortal Kombat 1. Instead, a character resembling Kronika named Damashi appears, but this character is distinct from Kronika. Damashi in Mortal Kombat 1 is a disguise used by Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath DLC.

Q: Who is the character that looks like Kronika in Mortal Kombat 1?

A: The character in Mortal Kombat 1 that bears a resemblance to Kronika is named Damashi. However, Damashi is actually Shang Tsung in disguise. While Damashi was previously associated with Onaga in Mortal Kombat: Deception, in Mortal Kombat 1, it’s just a nod to that era, with Shang Tsung using it as a guise.

Q: Will Kronika appear in Mortal Kombat 1 in the future?

A: It’s unlikely that Kronika will make an actual appearance in Mortal Kombat 1. Titans, like Kronika, can’t return once they are “destroyed,” as mentioned by the character Geras.
