CS2 Autoexec Not Working Error Bug How to Setup Config File Location

CS2 Autoexec Not Working: How to Setup CFG File in Right Folder Location

The CS2 autoexec not working error can happen for many reasons. The bug usually happens when you’re trying to execute the file in the game after inputting the “+exec” console command. This usually means that the autoexec.cfg was not placed in the right folder location on your system or there was trouble with the command syntax or input. Either way, it’s important to get the autoexec file running properly so that you don’t have to write every single console command when booting up the game. Here’s how to setup the autoexec config file for CS2 on PC via Steam.

How to fix CS2 autoexec not working bug

To fix the autoexec not working bug, here are some solutions you can try:

  • Make sure the console command is correct – After activating the console command by hitting the “~” key, make sure you type “+exec autoexec” without the “.cfg” extension. (Or replace “autoexec” with whatever your file is called.)
  • Put the autoexec.cfg file in the right folder – Make sure that this file is placed in the “\game\csgo\cfg” folder in not the “\csgo\cfg” folder. As you can tell, there are a lot of similar folders in just slightly different places, so it can get confusing.

How to setup CS2 autoexec file

If you don’t have an autoexec file yet, it’s pretty easy to setup:

  1. Right-click on the Counter-Strike 2 in your Steam’s game library and select “Manage Files”, then “Browse Local Files”.
  2. From there, head to the “\game\csgo\cfg\” directory and create an autoexec.cfg file using Notepad.
  3. Enter any console commands, line by line, in the autoexec.cfg file and then hit save.
  4. The console commands will then be loaded into the game upon launch. Otherwise, you can use the “+exec autoexec.cfg” console command manually.

You can combine this autoexec config file along with the various launch options for the game to make booting up CS2 extremely easy. For those who has been waiting for Mac support, here’s what we know so far on a Mac release date for the game.
