Path of Exile: Awakening Goes Live Today

The fourth act to Grinding Gear Games' Path of Exile, which in my estimation is one of the best free-to-play games that elevates classic Diablo gameplay, will finally be releasing today at noon by way of Awakening.

As a brief synopsis, Awakening (which is also free, just to be clear) will expand the existing PoE map with Wraeclast, a city embedded in the side of a mountain with mines full of gems, the same gems that grant players skills and powerful spells.

As the birthplace of many of these game, Wraeclast is home to some of the strongest bosses in the game as well as new elemental Golem gems and a host of unique items and Maraketh weapons. One of the best weapons, Null's Inclination, is a bow that allows players to create zombies and skeletons with every enemy kill.

The tremendous passive skill tree now has sockets for jewels that can transform skill nodes within an area on the tree. Some jewels like Intuitive Leap will even allow you to jump from one part of the skill tree to another without having to waste precious skill points forming a line. The variety of customizable builds in Path of Exile was already insane, and these jewels now make it exponentially more insane.

For a more in-depth look at Awakening, you can read my extensive preview or experience it for yourself when it goes live today.
