Don’t Expect to See Any Familiar Faces in Mass Effect: Andromeda

If you were hoping to see the like of Garrus, Miranda, or Tali in the next entry in BioWare's Mass Effect franchise, you're probably going to be disappointed, as it appears there are no plans to include any of the characters from the original trilogy in Mass Effect: Andromeda.

In response to a fan on Twitter, BioWare senior development director Chris Wynn revealed that including characters from the first three games simply wouldn't make sense to the game's overall plot. After all, the original trilogy was set within the confines of the Milky Way Galaxy. Andromeda, however, will be set in the… well… Andromeda Galaxy.

And that's not all Wynn had to share, as the BioWare director also confirmed (via VG247) that while the game will run on a brand-new engine, the combat will be quite similar to the earlier games. It will feature new elements, but retain the same overall feel. As a fan of Mass Effect 3's fast and fluid third-person action, that's perfectly fine by me!

Mass Effect: Andromea was formally unveiled during EA's press conference at E3. For more on the game, check out this info dump of reportedly leaked plot details. While you're at it, make sure you check out the game's announcement trailer below. Already seen it? Watch it again. It's short and incredibly sweet.

Mass Effect Andromeda is slated for release sometime next year. I don't know about you, but as soon as EA and BioWare revealed the game back in June, it skyrocketed to the top of my wish list.
