3DS Sales Up 260%

Everything is going according to Nintendo's mastermind plan. Ninty dropped the price of the 3DS by $80 due to lagging sales, and in turn, has seen an increase of 260% over last month.

August NPD sales figures have been released. The Nintendo 3DS sold 235,000 units during August, 185,000 of which were after the price drop took effect.

Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, had this to say about the sudden turnaround.

Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS.

With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching tomorrow, and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arriving later this year, Nintendo 3DS will offer consumers cutting-edge entertainment and tremendous value this holiday season.

Nintendo isn't out of the dark completely. The 3DS still has an uphill battle to fight, and will soon have strong competition in the form of the PlayStation Vita.
