Microsoft Discredits HD Collections With Classy Sarcasm

Color me crazy, but I'm one of the rare few who not only missed out on Shadow of the Colossus last generation, but God of War as well. Naturally, I'm a fan of HD "collections" as they've given me a chance to enjoy some of the best PlayStation 2 games, albeit late, and feel like less of a nutjob when friends are talking about them. However, not everyone feels that way.

Microsoft's Corporate Vice President, Phil Spencer, gave Sony some street cred during an interview with Game Informer.

He stated:

Sony's done a great job with looking at their back catalogue and selling those games again,

That they have, but I sense that Mr. Spencer threw a subtle blow during that quote. Let's see what he said next:

I [don't] want to get into a world where people felt like I was just trying to sell them things that they've already played.

HD collections have been a profitable venture for smaller studios and a way to buffer Sony's PlayStation 3 library with sure-fire hits. Okay, so bringing half of the PlayStation 2 collection to the PlayStation 3 is a little overboard, but a few of them are excellent, namely the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Phil Spencer went on to explain that Halo Anniversary can't be put in the same bracket because it was intended to be a "celebration". Alright Spencer, from now on we'll call Sony's HD collection games HD celebrations instead. Silent Hill HD Celebration… it kind of has a ring to it.
