Metal Gear Solid 4 Goes Offline This Summer

Sad news for fans of Metal Gear Solid 4. A recent annoucement by Konami's Japanese website, as translated by Kotaku, indicates that Metal Gear Online, the game's multiplayer component, will be gradually disabled this coming summer.

The MGO shop will close on March 21, creating new characters will be halted in April, and then the entire mode will be deactivated by June 21.

I'm not particularly sure why this mode's death needs to be so slow and agonizing, but it will have to come eventually, as it does for all multiplayer games.
