Square Enix Pushing Tomb Raider To Be “Best Game Of The Generation”

Lara Croft hasn't aged much over the years, but after seeing last year's E3 trailer for the upcoming Tomb Raider it looks like her series is taking a turn for the better, and Square Enix is banking on it.

While speaking with venturebeat, president and chief executive of Square Enix's U.S. division, Mike Fischer, showed a high level of confidence in the upcoming Tomb Raider. He stated with enthusiasm:

I can look you in the eye and tell you, honest to goodness, we want this to be the best game of the generation. And the time that we’re giving it is going to allow that to happen.

Earlier this month Crystal Dynamics—the game's developer—announced that the game's target release window was pushed from this year to 2013. While that means we'll all have to wait a little longer, it also means Square Enix is willing to lose out on holiday sales in order to layer in some polish.

He continued:

Look, you’re going to see the game at E3. Tell me if you think I’m blowing smoke your way. It’s really that good.

Normally I'd take this as an attempt at PR hype but Tomb Raider has looked every bit as fantastic as Fischer described. Okay, so it might not end up being the best game of the generation, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. If it's as gripping as the trailers have shown and as fun to play as Lara Croft is to watch then Square Enix has a hit on its hands.

As Fischer mentioned Tomb Raider will present itself at this year's E3, which is fortunately only a week away. Stay tuned for new details and media in the near future.
