Warner Bros. Revives Spy Hunter

Warner Bros. has announced a reboot of the classic arcade racer Spy Hunter, on the heels of its 30th anniversary. TT Fusion will be developing this throwback for Vita and 3DS.

The original Spy Hunter developed by Midway was released in arcades in 1983, with most cabinets having the stand-up controls with a steering wheel and foot pedal. While driving down the highway in the G-6155 Interceptor, the player needed to take out enemy vehicles using maching guns, smoke screens, and oil slicks, while dodging other vehicles and helicopters. The car can also transform into a boat.

In turn, this Spy Hunter reboot will take players once again into the G-6155 Inceptor and pit them in the role of the nameless "Agent" who is charged with eliminating a global terrorist organization. Depending on the terrain, the Interceptor can transform into an assault vehicle and speed boat, and can be upgraded with additional weapons, gadgets, and even "an unmanned aerial support drone".

Samanthan Ryan, Senior VP of Production and Development for Warner Bros., is excited to bring back the franchise:

Spy Hunter’s classic gameplay has been upgraded to give PlayStation Vita and 3DS players a new, adrenaline-charged experience. Gamers now have more choice in the transformation and customization with greater hand controls, brilliant graphics and enhanced action cameras.

Spy Hunter is scheduled for the fall and will hopefully be displayed at E3 next week.
