Star Wars Battlefront 2

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Crystals Premium Currency and Microtransactions Unavailable on All Platforms

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has had its premium currency, Crystals, removed. There’s been no statement from EA or DICE concerning microtransaction adjustment or removal, but you can no longer buy Crystals through the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Origin, or Amazon.

Battlefront 2’s loot box system has come under major fire by fans over the last week, and EA seems to be in damage control mode. With the recent early access copy of the game, players calculated that it would take 40 hours to gain the number of credits necessary to buy just one of the locked heroes in the game.

EA responded by lowering the number of credits needed to purchase heroes in Battlefront 2 considerably, but it still hasn’t sated fans because it still takes a long time to unlock them. It seems this adjustment was too little too late, and players are sticking by the pronouncement that the game is pay-to-win.

After Star Wars Battlefront 2 was review bombed for the above, plus a very controversial timer that stops you from earning credits in single-player, EA and DICE have been on the back foot. With the full release of the game coming tomorrow, it’s possible that significant adjustments to the premium currency and loot box systems are being made, or (hopefully) they’re being done away with entirely.

We reviewed Battlefront 2 2.5 out of 5 stars because of how broken its progression system is, and how much potential was wasted. It’s really a fun game when you get down to playing it, but because all your progress depends on random loot drops there’s nothing substantial to work towards.

We’ll be keeping an eye on this situation as it develops. It’s entirely possible the system is just temporarily down in preparation for tomorrow’s general launch. Perhaps, though, EA has taken fans’ complaints to heart and are working on a fix that will make the game feel less like gambling and grinding and more like a worthy successor to the original two Star Wars: Battlefront games.
