Nier: Automata

NieR: Automata Still Hides an Unpleasant Secret

NieR Automata was one of those games that managed to punch you in the chest, rip out your heart and run away laughing gleefully while you tried your hardest to will the tears back into your sockets. It was a game that won the hearts of many with its haunting soundtrack, memorable cast and a story that was simply unforgettable. It feels like many super fans have already figured out everything there is to know about NieR Automata but, apparently, that’s not the case at all.

Weekly Famitsu’s interview with ten key staff members that were involved in NieR, and translated by Gematsu, revealed that the developers know of a secret that players still haven’t been able to find. Though due to the unpleasant nature of the secret, the developers won’t be opening up about how to find this secret anytime soon.

The developers had this to say about the secret: “That” has yet to be discovered. It will definitely be unpleasant, so the developers will not officially announce what it is. For various reasons, this specification was put into the game. If they are more detailed about what it is, problems might occur, so they cannot say anything more. It is the final secret of NieR: Automata…”

Well if that isn’t just baiting the rest of us fans to find out what it is, then I don’t know what is! Though the nature of the secret is a complete mystery, there were some clues that might help fans looking for it. For example, holding a D-Pad direction button and hitting R3 will change the camera zoom, but might also cause the camera to clip through textures. While that may not seem like much, the hint of something lurking in NieR: Automata’s system is so intriguing that I doubt any of us will rest until we find out the unnerving secret that’s hidden inside.
