A new Xbox avatar editor is reportedly being developed by Microsoft, with footage taken from the editor having been shared online and detailing a new feature that will make players’ avatars look more in line with Pixar characters. The editor adds a new level of detail to the avatars, making them appear much more animated in the process.
Screenshots and a demo of the new Xbox avatar editor have surfaced online (via Reset Era), showing the upgraded feature operating on Windows 10. The new editor boasts a variety of upgrades, ranging from the ability to edit intricate details of the Xbox avatars through to more clothing and accessories options.
The demo, which has appeared as an unlisted YouTube video, shows a developer tweaking an avatar as it poses in a variety of stances. Specific elements of the avatar’s eyes are changed, while it’s also given a specific mood, which alters its animations and causes its “personality” to change.
The Xbox avatar changes are impressive, though Microsoft hasn’t announced when they will be formally revealed. Xbox One owners are hoping that the feature will be debuted in an upcoming system update, and judging by the footage it seems to be ready to roll out.
While Xbox avatars are hardly a huge selling point, they’re an interesting feature that offers the Xbox One a little more personality than its peers. Microsoft has been working hard on improving the Xbox One software over the past couple of years, and overhauling this feature will certainly please Xbox One owners who may have grown a little tired of the console’s current selection of avatars. We’ve always wanted to turn ourselves into a Pixar character, and this is probably the closest we’re going to get for the foreseeable future.
