Star Trek: Bridge Crew Next Generation DLC Out Now on PS4 and PSVR

Ubisoft has released a gameplay trailer for the Star Trek: Bridge Crew Next Generation DLC which is available now on PS4 and PSVR. The trailer rocks that vintage 80’s VHS aesthetic, and not only shows us the immensely-detailed Enterprise-D, but also a glimpse of the new ‘Resistance’ mode.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a game built on nostalgia, so it only makes sense that it’d give us the chance to battle the Borg as Picard and crew eventually. The sheer dedication to painstakingly recreating the Enterprise-D will certainly please fans. Like the Original Enterprise in the base game, Red Storm Entertainment has pulled out all of the stops in order to get the bridge looking as close to the original show’s set as is possible. Everything sounds, looks, and even smells (if you put your mind to it) just like you’d hope it would.

We’ll also get a new game mode called ‘Resistance,’ where the Enterprise-D crew will battle it out against endless waves of the Borg. It would have felt practically criminal not to feature the Borg alongside everything we love about the Next Generation, so it’s nice to see them pop up in an incredibly-fitting fashion. If this weren’t all enough, in the standard game mode you’ll now also encounter everyone’s favorite anti-Vulcans, the Romulans, who will make use of deadly sneak attacks.

Moreover, you’ll now have more options when serving on the bridge of the Enterprise. Androids are now a playable character avatar, allowing us all to live out or secret Data fantasies. And there’s a new crew role, Operations. Replacing the Chief Engineer, Operations players will assign NPC crewmates roles to perform throughout the ship that’ll alter the capabilities of the ship in combat and in exploration.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is one of those games with a goldmine of expansion opportunities. With hulking quantities of niche fans for each run of the series, perhaps we’ll see even more DLC in future. How cool would it be to explore the unknown of the Delta Quadrant in the USS Voyager? Or perhaps even managing the seedy, morally-grey space station Deep Space Nine? While we wait for these future possibilities, you can pick up the Bridge Crew Next Generation DLC for PS4 and PSVR (with crossplay between the two) on the PlayStation Store now, with a release on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Windows Mixed Reality on July 21.
