Niantic has announced that the Pokemon Go Water Festival is returning this year and it’s starting today on June 7th, 2018. The Water Festival event will be running until June 21st at 1 pm PDT. Throughout the duration of the event, Water-type Pokemon like Magikarp and Wailmer will be appearing more frequently. A new Pokemon has also been introduced, and lucky players will be able to catch the rare Shiny Shellder for the very first time.
The news was revealed in a post on the official site earlier today. For every Water-type Pokemon caught by players, they will earn 3x Stardust. 2km Eggs will now hatch Water-type Pokemon like Totodile, Mudkip, and Corphish. That’s not all as players will also gain Double Candy and Stardust for every egg that hatches.
Pokemon Go Water Festival: Kyogre Returns
Additionally, Raid Battles will feature powerful Water-type Pokemon, including the return of the legendary third generation Pokemon, Kyogre. Any player who defeats Kyogre will have the opportunity to encounter its Shiny form equivalent. The Water Festival is a celebration of all things Water-type.
Alolan Pokemon has started cropping up in the game. Niantic recently confirmed that the first Alolan Pokemon to appear in the game is the Dragon-type Alolan Exeggutor. The developer is making sure that the mobile AR game continues to thrive with constant updates and events.
Due to that effort, Pokemon Go recently reached an incredible new milestone, with over 800 million downloads worldwide to date. It might not be as popular as when it initially launched in 2016, but this achievement means that the game’s player base continues to grow. Interestingly, players will be able to transfer Pokemon from the Kanto region caught in Pokemon Go to the upcoming Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. That’s not too surprising, considering that both games were inspired by Pokemon Go gameplay in the first place.
