Sega Mega Drive Classics Nintendo Switch Edition Release Date Announced

The Sega Mega Drive Classics Nintendo Switch edition has officially been announced by Sega. The bundle of iconic titles will land on Nintendo’s hybrid console on Thursday, December 6, and will allow fans the chance to relive some of their all-time favourite games from previous generations.

The news came courtesy of a brand-new trailer, which was posted on Sega Europe’s YouTube channel on Tuesday. The video showed off the myriad of games that are present in the Sega Mega Drive Classics collection, as well as the release date for the bundle. The collection has been available to buy on PS4 and Xbox One since May 2018, while PC and Mac ports were released episodically between June 2010 and July 2012.

50 titles are present in the Sega Mega Drive Classics collection, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Phantasy Star II, Streets of Rage 2, Gunstar Heroes, The Revenge of Shinobi, and plenty of others. The full list of titles present on the collection can be viewed on the game’s official website. The games will give players a chance to revisit some favourite titles from years ago, and also offer new comers to gaming the opportunity to play some titles that they missed out on.

The Sega Mega Drive Classics collection comes with modernized features for those who are only playing the games for the first time. There are a number of new modes too, with online multiplayer, challenges, mirror, local co-operative play, instant rewind, and save states all having been implemented to give each title an update for the modern age.

The Sega Mega Drive Classics collection is already available to pre-order from US, European, Middle Eastern, and African retailers. The bundle is priced at $40 from online stores such as Amazon and Best Buy, while it will set you back £29.99 from Amazon, Smyths Toys, and GAME in the UK.
