G4 Drops Gaming Content, Becomes Esquire Network In April

This spring, the video game television channel once known as G4 will no longer exist. In its stead will be the Esquire Network, which will apparently cater to today's "modern man."

According to the New York Times, on April 22nd, G4 will be rebranded as the men's magazine Esquire, and will focus on more "manly" topics like politics, cooking, and cars. Esquire Network general manager Adam Stotsky has said that this new channel will center around “the modern man" and "what being a man today is all about.”

And apparently gaming doesn't come into the picture at all here. NBC exec Bonnie Hammer explained why, saying, “Realistically, guys who are into gaming are not necessarily watching television. If this was going to come under my portfolio, I’m a little brand crazy, so I said, let’s create a real brand, define a space, understand who we are programming for.”

Umm… Is it just me or didn't that make little to no sense?
