NieR: Automata GOTY Release Date Announced, Yoko Taro Mystifies Fans

The NieR Automata GOTY release date has been announced by Square Enix. In addition, we’ve received a mysterious message from the game’s enigmatic Director Yoko Taro.

NieR Automata has been out for nearly two years and it’s done quite well in that time, selling over 3.5 million copies across all platforms to date and, of course, received numerous awards, hence the enhanced edition. An ESRB rating revealed the existence of NieR Automata Game of the YoRHa Edition in late November 2018. We haven’t had an official announcement until just recently when Square Enix broke the news.

It won’t be too much longer until we can get this sweet package of a great game – the NieR Automata GOTY release date is February 26, 2019. This special edition of the game has been confirmed for the PC via Steam and the PS4. We haven’t yet heard any word about a possible Xbox One version of the game.

Players who purchase the Game of the YoRHa Edition on will receive the 3C3C1D119440927 DLC which includes new costumes for the game’s characters and three different colosseums to battle in for fun. Also included is the Machine Mask accessory and the Cardboard, Grimoire Weiss, Retro Grey, and Retro Red pod skin designs. PS4 players will get an all-new Dynamic Theme, a set of 15 PSN avatars, plus the Play Pod and amazarashi pod skins. Those who purchase on Steam will instead receive two new wallpapers and the in-game Valve Accessory.

Aside from the announcement of the NieR Automata GOTY release date, the game’s official Twitter account has posted a strange message from Director Yoko Taro:

Yoko Taro proceeds to opine about the original launch dates for NieR Automata as a commentary on the announcement of the Game of the YoRHa Edition release date. He then makes a series of nonsensical calculations, ultimately arriving at “a number completely devoid of all meaning”. Of course, the absolute mad lad could be secretly teasing something in an incredibly roundabout way. One can never tell with Yoko Taro.

One question remains: will the people who have already bought NieR Automata be able to upgrade to the Game of the YoRHa Edition in some fashion? That much hasn’t been made clear; we’ve reached out to Square Enix for comment on the matter. The NieR Automata GOTY release date is February 26, 2019, and it will retail for $39.99 for the PC and PS4.
