Assassin's Creed Odyssey new game plus

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey New Game Plus mode coming later this month

Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed Twitter account has soft-announced that an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey New Game Plus mode is coming later this month. The announcement came in meme form as the official account positioned the text in the middle of a steaming cup of tea, presumably about to be spilled.

While the spilling of the tea seems unrelated to the announcement itself, the post has been received well with most responses praising Ubisoft for giving fans what they wanted. The initial tweet contained no actual information regarding the New Game Plus mode. However, a follow-up post from the account promised that details would be revealed in the February monthly update video and article which will be released sometime next week.

Presumably, this will function much like other New Game Plus modes, allowing players to restart the game but with all of their accumulated equipment and abilities. Given Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s move to a more robust RPG style experience, it would also be likely that enemy levels will scale appropriately in the new game mode. Whether or not players will be able to carry over companion characters such as shipmates remains to be seen but for plot-related reasons, this may not be possible.

Assassin’s Creed Origins similarly received a New Game Plus mode after its launch, which allowed players to carry over crafting materials, abilities, and even ability points.

This good news accompanies a rocky month for Assassin’s Creed as the franchise recently caused controversy with its Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey DLC, The First Blade. The three-part major story content seemingly rewrote player’s character choices, removing the option to refuse a heterosexual relationship, which many fans took as an insult to the highly praised ability to be a gay or bisexual character in the game.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft is also gearing up for a remastered release of Assassins Creed 3. The third game in the series received mixed reviews at the time of release but the remaster looks to encourage players back to try it once again with updated visuals and DLC content.
