Street Fighter 5 gets a free trial next week

If you’ve yet to try out the latest Street Fighter, now’s your chance, as Street Fighter 5 gets a free trial next week. The trial will run from April 23 to May 5 for PlayStation 4 and PC gamers. Also, PlayStation gamers do not need a PlayStation Plus subscription to participate. They do, however, need one to play online. The entire game will be available throughout the free trial, including the new modes brought in with the Arcade Edition.

Moreover, all 16 original characters will be playable. This includes four DLC characters, too: Akuma, Blanka, Menat, and Juri. Interestingly, those who own the game but haven’t bought these DLC characters will have access to them during this period. Even better, if you buy one of these characters during the trial, you’ll keep their progress.

According to the Capcom-Unity blog post, Street Fighter 5 will also be getting Breath of Fire 2 extra battle content. From May 10 to June 7, you can access Breath of Fire themed costumes for Falke. Also during that time, you can unlock Breath of Fire music to use throughout Street Fighter 5.

Capcom is also graciously allowing players to buy any Capcom Pro Tour DLC from 2016 to 2018. These packs will be available at $9.99 for 2016’s, and $14.99 for 2017 and 2018. Finally, there will also be a sale on character bundles starting April 23. Ryu and Chun-Li’s packs will be $14.99, with the Capcom Costume Bundle costing $19.99.

Street Fighter 5 held a similar free trial in December of last year. However, there wasn’t all of this content surrounding it. It seems that Capcom wants to make a big push with this upcoming event. It’s possible the studio is still looking for positive fanfare after some divisive events. Late last year, Capcom added in-game advertisements that players were not a fan of. That’s not to mention the game brought in lootboxes last summer as well, or the fact that the game won’t be getting a Season 4 pass.
