The story-driven puzzle game Forgotton Anne is heading to iOS this month. Originally released for consoles and PC, Forgotten Anne will soon grace iOS with its memorable visuals and surreal storyline. If you’re an iOS user, keep an eye out for this one on June 26.
Developed by Throughline Games and published through the Square Enix Collective, Forgotton Anne (yes, that is the correct spelling) brings players to the world of the Forgotten Lands. These lands are inhabited by sentient everyday items known as Forgotlings, lost objects that wish to be found again. Everything ever lost goes to the Forgotten Lands, from old letters to lucky rocks. You play as the titular Anne, a human who enforces order in the Forgotten Lands. It’s Anne’s job to make sure a Forgotling rebellion is squashed for good, lest she and her master Bonku be rendered unable to return to the human world. You can run, jump, explore, and solve puzzles to guide Anne safely back home, but remember to be careful with your words, as varied dialogue options result in branching trees that lead you down different paths.
The art style is reminiscent of Studio Ghibli, creating a beautiful world to explore. The game focuses on the story, so there was a heavy emphasis put into building the stylistic world of the Forgotlings and giving each one a strong, unique personality. As if the Ghibli-esque visuals weren’t atmospheric enough, the score is orchestrated by the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra.
Forgotton Anne is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on PC through Steam. The iOS port is releasing June 26. Users can download a free trial to see if it’s the game for them, as well as preorder it for free via the App Store. If you’re interested in diving right in, it’ll only set you back $9.99 USD.
