Weak Surface RT Performance Costs Microsoft $900 Million In Q1 Losses

During Microsoft's earnings report this week, the company revealed that it has lost a significant chunk of change on the Surface RT.

Despite the fact that the company amassed a whopping $4.97 billion in earnings, the Surface RT cost Microsoft a good $900 million. The Big M is attributing this to "inventory adjustments."

Just a few days ago, Microsoft announced a price drop for its lineup tablets, discounting the Surface RT all across the globe by 30%. It remains to be seen whether or not this will aid in pulling the Surface out of the rut it currently finds itself in, but at this point, anything to make the device more appealing can't really hurt the company.

Do you think the Surface RT will find its footing in the technology market, or will it face a slow and painful death like the Zune? Let us know in the comments below.
