Cover art for the Resident Evil 3 remake has reportedly appeared on PSN, giving us our first look at a game that was recently teased during the Steam sale. Not only did we get a reveal of the Resident Evil remake cover art, we’ve also learned the final name for the multiplayer game Project Resistance thanks to a PlayStation Network upload. Much to the surprise of probably very few people, it will be called Resident Evil Resistance.
Following the wild success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, it was all but certain that the third game in the franchise would get a similar HD makeover. Fans were instead recently surprised with the reveal of Project Resistance, a Left 4 Dead-esque co-op zombie shooter that’s set in the Resident Evil universe.
Now, gaming industry commentator Nibel has posted images on his Twitter account showing us the cover art, pulled straight from PSN according to him.
“Resident Evil 3 [remake] cover art has appeared on PSN,” Nibel said on Twitter. “Looks like the final name for Project Resistance will be Resident Evil Resistance[.] And it has a similar font as the logo for REmake 3.”
Previously, rumors were flying left and right that a Resident Evil 3 remake was on the way. CAPCOM had talked about making use of “dormant IPs”, a category that would certainly include a game that’s well over 20 years old. There were also several teasers/hints baked into the Resident Evil 2 remake that could have been pointing towards a third game in the franchise.
Unfortunately, all we have in hand for now is the Resident Evil 3 remake cover art as seen above. It certainly looks nice, and CAPCOM has proven themselves more than capable of creating stunning character models for this upcoming upgraded experience. What it will actually look like and when we can get it will, for now, remain a bit of a mystery.
