383 Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers coming at launch

There will be 383 Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers when the game launches later in March 2020. This certainly sounds like a lot of people to meet (and it is), but there’s more to discover as you dig into the franchise’s history. Animal Crossing: New Horizons certainly seems like it’s shaping up nicely!

Animal Crossing has been well-known for its massive cast of characters. There’s a fair share of mysteries in this upcoming game (including a spooky grave that was spotted during the recent New Horizons Nintendo Direct), but one thing that isn’t a mystery is the number of Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers that will be in the game at launch. There will be a staggering 383 individual villagers available for this lovely little deserted island as confirmed in a tweet from the game’s official account.

383 villagers certainly sounds like a lot, but you might be surprised to learn that this isn’t actually the biggest cast of characters for the game. As noted in this submission on the /r/NintendoSwitch subreddit, Animal Crossing: New Leaf had only 333 villagers at launch. However, a later Welcome Amiibo update upped the cast of characters and increased its roster to 399 total villagers.

As it stands right now, the list of Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers is lower than New Leaf’s after its update. The confirmed list of villagers is even shorter than that, featuring 163 confirmed characters at the time of writing. None of the games thus far have featured every single villager in the game, a list which includes 472 characters in total.

Even so, the 383 Animal Crossing: New Horizonsthe future free updates characters will make for a very lively village. That number may well go up in that are planned for the game. For now, you can look forward to heading out on your very own deserted island adventure when Animal Crossing: New Horizons launches for the Nintendo Switch on March 20, 2020.
