The Price To Upgrade Your Games To Next-Gen Is More Than Advertised

A few games are releasing both on current-gen and next-gen systems, and some of these, such as Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, and Call of Duty: Ghosts, will allow you to upgrade to a next-gen version of the game if you buy them for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. A few upgrade deals claim to cost only $10 at that, which sounds like an absolute bargain.

However, like all things that seem too good to be true, there is a catch: your single-player save files will not transfer over.

EA and Activision both have confirmed to Kotaku that upgrading to the next-gen versions of Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts will transfer their multiplayer progress, but not any of the players' single-player campaign info. An Ubisoft representative confirmed the same for the Assassin's Creed IV single-player campaign. The rep could not comment on Watch Dogs.

Considering most people play CoD or Battlefield for the multiplayer and not the single-player, this may not be an issue for any of them. However, for ACIV, this is huge. The moral of the story is if you think there's a possibility you will pick up a next-gen console within a month or two of these games' releases, you may just want to wait for the next-gen version of the game as well.
