Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was embraced by fans of the series, but there is one thing missing. Modern Warfare lacks the popular Zombies mode, but that doesn’t mean the developers never considered including it. Artist Aaron Beck revealed concept art from Modern Warfare that shows what the title’s Zombies mode could have looked like.

Zombie Walker Finally got clearance to share more art from Modern Warfare! So to begin here’s an unused concept from early in production. I was thinking it would be fun to play with the classic Call of Duty zombie gameplay, hinting here at some sort of Russian special forces soldier and his duo of quadruped robots, holding captive zombified soldiers by leashes around their necks. #callofduty #modernwarfare #zombies #conceptart #aaronbeck
According to Beck, Modern Warfare: Zombies never got past the planning stage. This is a shame because the concept art shows a unique new take on Zombies that may have been a hit. The Modern Warfare version of Zombies looks like it would have been more grounded, escaping the last few entries’ zanier approach.
You can see Zombie Walker robots, each leading two zombies on leashes, flanking a special forces soldier. If this Zombies had come to fruition, we may have had to take on human, robotic, and undead foes, which would have really increased enemy diversity. Unfortunately, we’ll probably have to wait for this year’s Call of Duty, rumored to be a Black Ops reboot, to get a new rendition of Zombies.
