Crash Bandicoot 4 features the reappearance of Tawna, Crash’s long-time girlfriend in the platforming series. However, given that Crash 4 will feature an alternate universe for the game’s cast of characters to explore, Tawna looks quite different this time around. This redesign hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans, with the fictional bandicoot woman’s new multi-colored haircut prompting a questionable amount of anger and concern.
It’s difficult to assume the mindset of those angered by a virtual animal’s new hairstyle. Similar to the reaction to The Last of Us 2‘s Abby, some people on the internet are inexplicably outraged when presented with a female video game character they don’t find attractive. As we’ve seen in the past, the reason behind this lack of attraction can be hair color, muscle definition (or lack thereof), or a character simply wearing certain items of clothing.
It’s unclear why exactly Tawna has riled up the mob, but it’s presumably something to do with the character no longer wearing hot pants and having blue streaks in her hair, as was her original design. You know, totally normal things people are annoyed about. But because a particular sect of Crash 4‘s audience lacks the self-awareness to realize that they’re body-shaming a cartoon marsupial, the negative reactions have started to roll in to the character’s — ahem — “SJW design.”
“This f***ing sjw design,” tweeted one Crash fan.
“Of course they designed her like that…,” reads another incredulous response.
“I’ts hard to not see this character as a SJW feminist… I’m trying hard… Even Crash is having a hard time not to see it. lol,” another added.
However, not everyone was upset by Tawna’s redesign. For some, the pendulum swung the other way, with many oversharing their more specific thoughts about the redesign:

Tawna is set to be one of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time‘s playable characters when the game launches on October 2, 2020, so if you’re waiting on the redesign to either crush your spirit or your genitals, there’s not long left until its release.
