Oculus Quest Pro leak indicates a huge controller upgrade

Evidence of an upcoming Oculus Quest Pro model is growing, thanks to leaked images of the apparent controller upgrade. There’s also a list of purported headset and controller specs that reveal some big improvements. Facebook is yet to comment on the VR hardware leak, so, unfortunately, an Oculus Quest Pro release date remains up in the air.

What is the Oculus Quest Pro release date?

If Facebook follows its established development cycle, the Oculus Quest Pro release date could be March 2022.

Facebook is yet to reveal a launch date, though 17 months separated the launch of the Oculus Quest and Quest 2. Should it take the same amount of time to transition from the Oculus Quest 2 to the Quest Pro, the launch date should fall in or around March 2022.

YouTuber Basti564 was able to uncover mention of “Quest Pro” in the Oculus OS firmware, following a recent update. Despite the unconfirmed nature of the following leaks, it’s almost certain that Facebook has an Oculus Quest Pro in production. With Facebook Connect 2021 set to take place on October 28, the timing points towards an official unveiling next month.

Redditor Samulia- shared some renders of the supposed new Oculus Quest Pro controllers, matching those seen in the production model images featured here. Codenamed “Seacliff,” the alleged new Oculus motion controllers ditch the sensor ring and integrate three cameras for superior tracking.

Samulia- also shared the following Oculus Quest Pro controller and headset specs:

Possible Oculus Quest Pro headset and controller specs

  • Display — Pixel level local dimming. Great black levels, colors, and contrast without black smearing. Same resolution as Quest 2.
  • Laser projector — For depth scanning.
  • Starlet controllers — Precision Finger tracking, Multi Haptics, Fingerprint Sensor, Maybe no tracking ring for close hand interactions (replaced by High-res Depth cameras).
  • Seven cameras, potential configuration:

Hopefully, it won’t be long before virtual reality fans learn about the Oculus Quest Pro in an official capacity. The Facebook Connect 2021 event is just a month away, so stay tuned for GameRevolution for updates in the coming weeks.

In other news, Apple Watches are experiencing a major problem. The iPhone 13 launch isn’t going without issue, either; some users are having trouble with the display and camera.
