Battlefield 2042 won’t support keyboard and mouse on consoles at launch

Battlefield 2042 will not support keyboard and mouse on consoles at launch, developer DICE revealed in an official blog posting. With competitive shooter titles on console moving to embrace the keyboard and mouse input, Battlefield 2042’s step backwards to force controller support may be disappointing to some on PlayStation and Xbox systems.

At launch, Battlefield 2042 will not support keyboard and mouse on consoles. Both PlayStation and Xbox systems will be locked to controller play only.

Found at the bottom of a blog post titled “Battlefield’s Commitment to Positive Play,” underneath the heading of “Fair Play,” DICE confirmed that it “won’t be supporting [keyboard and mouse] at the launch of Battlefield 2042, but [it is] still investigating the various options about making that available and how it may impact cross-play.”

While keyboard and mouse support won’t be there for launch, DICE is still looking at potentially implementing it in the future.

Competing first-person shooter Call of Duty: Warzone has implemented console keyboard and mouse support by tuning the matchmaking so that users of the same input will play against one another. This sees keyboard and mouse players going up against other keyboard and mouse users, while those wielding a controller will find others using gamepads, regardless of the platform.

Not only has keyboard and mouse support granted console players more PC-like aiming and greater success when playing at a desk, it has also allowed disabled gamers to play more easily with a wide variety of keyboard and mouse form factors available.

For now, those wanting to play Battlefield 2042 will a keyboard and mouse will have to do so on a PC.
