Star Wars KOTOR Remake Xbox Deal

Star Wars: KOTOR – Remake Was Reportedly Turned Down for Xbox

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake was announced as a PS5 timed-exclusive at the end of last year, surprising many who expected the game to come to Xbox at the same time. According to the latest rumor, this could have been a very different scenario. Apparently, Microsoft was approached for an Xbox timed-exclusivity deal for Star Wars: KOTOR Remake but turned it down on the grounds that they wanted to focus on their own IPs instead.

How the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake Xbox deal fell through

Microsoft was apparently approached for the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake but turned it down according to multiple “sources that have been accurate in the past”. The sources told Youtuber MrMattyPlays that the refusal had something to do with it being a third-party deal with Aspyr Media too, although he didn’t elaborate more on this. The implication was that it was likely to be a similar excuse that has been heard before: Microsoft wanted to focus on their own IPs instead. However, take this information with a pinch of salt as always.

The rumor comes just days after it was revealed Microsoft also turned down a deal with Marvel to create a Spider-Man game. When Marvel’s Spider-Man was being pitched to different publishers, Marvel’s Jay Ong approached Microsoft but was turned down as they wanted to prioritize their own IPs. On the other hand Sony’s Adam Boyes and John Drake offered to make a PS4-exclusive AAA Spider-Man game. At the time, the Spider-Man IP was still licensed to Activision but this agreement was terminated for an agreed sum of money. The rest is history.

In other news, DICE will no longer be making any more content for Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone mode as it takes a back seat to other more popular modes. Elsewhere, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s release date was revealed as part of a stunt that involved plastering LA’s Long Beach dockyard in the game’s artwork.
