Will the Punisher Return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Jon Bernthal’s MCU Future Revealed

Now that the Marvel shows such as The Punisher and The Defenders have made their way from Netflix to Disney Plus, talk is turning towards which of these show’s lead characters will continue to be a part of the MCU. Many wonder if Jon Bernthal will return to the MCU as the Punisher and now, Rosario Dawson, who played Claire Temple in Daredevil, may have let the cat out of the bag.

Speaking at a panel during the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Dawson said that she “found out yesterday (August 6, 2022) that the Punisher was happening again.” She added that she was a “huge fan” of Bernthal and, as she had starred in the other Netflix Marvel shows, wanted to “make it happen” for her to join the ranks of this one.

Dawson then took to Twitter yesterday (August 8, 2022) to reel back her comments, saying that she “can’t be trusted” and got her “intel from fans”.

Marvel Studios recently revealed that Daredevil would be getting a reboot. The character will return in early 2024 as part of their Phase 5 plans, with 18 episodes of a new series called Born Again hitting Disney Plus. They’re bringing back Cox in the titular role, as well as Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin. This has led to much speculation about which other characters may make the leap from Netflix to the MCU.

In the past, Bernthal had said he would consider reprising the role if things were right. His Marvel co-star Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, has also been vocal about wanting the actor to return. Speaking with Forbes, Cox paid tribute to the “tremendous” star and said he has no idea about “who could do a better version of The Punisher than Jon Bernthal.”

In other news, the release date and time for I Am Groot on Disney Plus has been revealed, rumors have been swirling about the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie, and Henry Cavill could return as Superman, if the offer from Warner Bros. is tantalising enough.
