Nintendo was offered an exclusive partnership with Activision for Skylanders Spyro's Adventure, but for some mysterious reason, the Big N decided to pass. Had the company jumped on board, the original title would have been a platform exclusive for the Japanese console manufacturer.
"[Nintendo] spent a long time looking and looking," Toys for Bob co-founder Paul Reiche told Polygon, recounting a trip to Nintendo to show off an early look at the project. "They were just like 'We have never seen anything like this before.' I've always wondered about the full meaning of that comment [laughs]."
When asked why Nintendo turned down the offer, Reiche replied by saying, "We have no idea why. Clearly they have got properties well suited to this world. Why it is that they didn't rush in here will probably haunt them for the rest of their days."
If the success of Skylanders doesn't keep Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata up at night, I don't know what does. Actually, scratch that. I have a few ideas….
