Surprise, the Hogwarts Legacy preload on Steam is officially available today, despite what was previously thought. Originally, it was assumed that only the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 versions of the game would have preloading, since Avalanche Software had not said anything about it for PC. But the developer has finally confirmed through the official Twitter account for the game that PC players, whether for Early Access or the global launch, can pre-load starting now.
Hogwarts Legacy preload on PC will be over 70 GB
Given that Hogwarts Legacy is over 70 GB on PC and there will likely be an extraordinary number of people attempting to download the game at the same time, this Steam preload is very much welcome. In the tweet, Avalanche Software wishes to remind players that if they are not seeing the option for preloading the game, they should restart their Steam client.
The reason why the Early Access and the global launch for Hogwarts Legacy on PC is 10 hours (if not more given the timezone) after the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game is still unknown. Other recent Warner Bros. games, like Gotham Knights, have also stuck to the 10 AM PST / 1 PM EST launch date on Steam instead of midnight. Fans replying to the tweet have asked about this strange staggered launch on PC, but have yet to receive an answer.
It’s also unclear at this time whether or not players who pre-ordered the game on the Epic Games Store can pre-load Hogwarts Legacy.
