Steam Deck May Be Getting More Competition, This Time From Lenovo

By now, most people will have heard of the Steam Deck, Valve‘s handheld PC that finally saw the developer make waves in the hardware market. Well, now it looks as though the device may have yet another rival on its hands.

Say “hello” to the Legion Go

In an exclusive report from Windows Central, Lenovo may be hard at work on its own handheld gaming system that could directly compete with the Steam Deck.

Sources indicate that this device will be called the Legion Go and will offer similar functionality as the Deck, but with Windows 11 as its operating system, rather than the Linux-based system Valve’s portable uses. Lenovo’s offering, although yet to be officially confirmed, could be based on the Lenovo Legion Play, a similar device from the tech firm that was never released.

The report goes on to say that “details are scant” at the moment, but the Legion Go could utilize AMD’s latest Phoenix processors. While there’s no indication on whether this will be the case, Lenovo could benefit from opting for the RDNA 3 graphics chip if it’s siding with AMD.

It should be made clear that this is based on insider information. At the time of writing, Lenovo has yet to confirm its handheld gaming PC. However, it certainly won’t be the first to offer stiff competition for the Steam Deck.

The ASUS ROG Ally was released not long ago, offering Windows-based gaming on the go in this emerging mobile PC market. This particular Deck rival is powered by somewhat more up-to-date hardware.

If Lenovo is releasing something that could go up against the Steam Deck, it’ll be one more choice in what appears to be a growing market. Currently, there’s no word on when the Legion Go is likely to be released.
