Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Get More DLC, Sequel Now at Design Level

Cyberpunk 2077 is enjoying something of a resurgence, especially since the Phantom Liberty DLC dropped recently. However, the studio has said there will be no more new content for the game as things move forward.

Onto the next Project (Orion)

In a recent Investor Day video from CD Projekt Red (as spotted by PC Gamer), the studio’s CEO, Adam Badowski, discussed the company’s future. In particular, the team has decided “not to develop any more add-ons” (according to the voice-over translator) for Cyberpunk 2077.

Instead, CDPR are moving onto the sequel to the dystopian sci-fi RPG. Currently referred to by the codename “Project Orion,” nothing is really known about this follow-up.

However, Badowski said it’s in the “conceptual design level” at the moment. Essentially, the next Cyberpunk game is in very early development. This specific part of the video begins around the 2:30:34 mark.

The presentation also says that Project Orion will be worked on by a “team of veterans” who helped fine-tune Cyberpunk 2077 and design Phantom Liberty. It also sounds like development will ramp up as more people are added to the team come late 2024.

It’s going to be a busy time for CD Projekt Red over the next few years. As well as the Cyberpunk sequel, the studio is also working on a new Witcher saga as well as a brand-new IP. We’re also getting an official remake of the first Witcher game.

It’s a bit of a shame Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be getting any new DLC going forward, especially now the game is finally getting the praise it was originally after. No doubt we’ll hear more about the follow-up as time goes by, but it’s going to be a long time before it releases.
