Cyberpunk 2077 Development Officially Ends, CD Projekt Red Confirms

Despite it coming out three and a half years ago, it feels like Cyberpunk 2077 had so much more to give. Though it had a very shaky start, CD Projekt Red‘s dystopian RPG is finally enjoying some recognition. However, the developer now appears to be done with the game completely.

Most are working on Polaris

As shown in the latest earnings report, one of the slides gives a clear indication that the team at CDPR is no longer working on Cyberpunk 2077. On page seven of the document, we get a breakdown of what’s currently in the pipeline and how many people are working on each new project.

As you can see, even back in February, only 17 people across the whole company were still attached to the 2020 release. But as of April 30, that number is now zero, with developers split across a multitude of upcoming games from the studio.

CD Projekt Red is clearly going to be busy over the next few years. Work is underway on Polaris – the working title of the new Witcher saga – with over 400 people developing it so far, which counts for nearly two-thirds of the entire development crew.

There are a few people attached to “other projects,” while just under 100 staff are on “shared services,” which is described as things like localization and quality assurance.

When these new games will see the light of the day cannot be said at this stage. By all accounts, they’re likely fairly early in the development phase, so it’s unlikely we’re going to be seeing them for some time.

As for Cyberpunk itself, it’s easily considered one of the most disastrous launches of this generation. However, that was then, Over time, the studio worked diligently to patch the laundry list of issues that plagues the long-awaited game.

With a rating of “very positive” on Steam, Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way, so fans may be sad that its life has finally come to an end.
