Nintendo Looking Into Third-Party Support for Amiibo

Nintendo has confirmed that amiibo, its upcoming NFC-based platform that launches alongside Super Smash Bros for Wii U later this month, will likely expand beyond just first-party titles.

That's right, the Big N is looking into partnering with some third-party developers to bring amiibo to other games as well. "We’re having those conversations and we’re still early on because amiibo isn’t even going to launch until later this month,” licensing manager Damon Baker shared with IGN

"We’re excited to see how that pans out but there’s a ton of interest from our third-party partners and we’re looking at what makes sense in terms of business models and levels of integration. There are really creative ideas that are coming through and we are working towards some opportunities for next year."

Nintendo kicks off its amiibo initiative on November 21 with its first batch of Super Smash Bros. figurines. However, the company plans to not only release more figures in the future, but also expand the platform to incorporate cards and cheaper toys.
