No Man's Sky: a ship flying over a cold tundra of a planet.

No Man’s Sky Trailer Outlines Omega Update, Free This Weekend

Recently, No Man’s Sky dropped a hint about what many assumed was a new update coming, and now a new trailer outlines the Omega patch. And the best part about it: it’s completely free to play for the next few days.

Doesn’t even require a copy of the game

The Omega update “invites everybody to embark upon a new shared interstellar expedition,” says the description on YouTube. Even if you don’t actually have No Man’s Sky, you can check out the new content, which is free until Monday, February 19, at 6 p.m. GMT.

A post on the official website goes into more detail. In summary, the latest patch features “a complete overhaul of expeditions, new on-planet missions, claimable pirate freighters, and much more!”

You also get to fly across the universe in a new spaceship, and there’s a new community expedition to take part in. There’s also been a rework of the Atlas Path mission, “culminating in a final, consequential, choice.”

According to a post on X from the co-founder of developer Hello Games, Sean Murray, Omega represents a “moment for new players to try No Man’s Sky, and existing players to welcome them into the community.”

Given the initial launch of the game back in 2016 – which was met with controversy due to many feeling Murray had misled the public about content – more than a few likely abandoned NMS and never returned.

However, over the years, the team has worked tirelessly to make vast improvements, sending out plenty of free DLC to go above and beyond people’s expectations.

These days, No Man’s Sky enjoys a much better reception, with a dedicated fan base of people who can’t get enough of the universe exploration title.

So if you haven’t dived in yet – or you stopped playing in the early days – now seems like a good time to check it out. Remember, it’s free this weekend, even for those who don’t actually have the game.
