A new report has emerged offering exciting news to Xbox fans who have missed out on PlayStation‘s iconic games from recent years. The report reveals that the next Xbox will function as both a PC and a console, allowing players to play not only Xbox games but also games from PC storefronts like Steam. Accordingly, Xbox players will have access to PlayStation titles that have come to PC, such as Spider-Man and God of War.
Next-gen Xbox to allow PC and console gaming
According to a new report, the next-gen Xbox will act as a Windows PC and also offer a console gaming experience.
This report comes from Windows Central. The outlet shared that although the upcoming Xbox will be a traditional console, and players can choose to use it as such if they wish, they will have the option to exit to Windows for a traditional PC experience. This option would essentially make the new console an Xbox-PC hybrid.
Exiting to Windows allows players to access PC-based storefronts like Steam and GOG, and play games from those libraries. This means that gaming titles originally only available on PlayStation but now available on PC, like Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima, will now be accessible to Xbox players.
In a recent interview with Mashable, Xbox president Sarah Bond said that the newly released ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X tease the overall direction Microsoft will be heading in with the new console. She also shared that the new console would be a “very premium, very high-end, curated experience.”
Sure enough, the Ally and Ally X let players play PC games and also Xbox games via the Play Anywhere program.
Bond’s statements were echoed by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. Speaking to Famitsu, the business executive suggested that Ally and Ally X are a sign of the Xbox software program’s future evolution. He also shared that the next console will be a first-party device.
