Twitch removes fan-favorite emotes based on Kai Cenat, Ironmouse, Ibai, and more streamers. Twitch emotes have long been the platform’s unique, standout feature. Fans love using these emotes, modeled on their favorite streamers.
Twitch has removed over 30 fan-favorite emotes
Twitch has wiped out over 34 fan-favorite emotes without any specific explanation. StreamBase tweeted, “34 Twitch global emotes were removed yesterday, including PoroSad, PotFriend, KEKHeim, FallWinning, WhySoSerious, and more!”
Unsurprisingly, the post has gone viral on X, and fans are mourning the loss of their favorite emotes. One fan commented, “Nooooo, not PotFriend,” accompanied by multiple crying emojis. A second fan wrote, “PotFriend. My fav emote to use now gone.” A third fan remarked, “RIP to 2 of my favorites, PoroSad and BangBooBounce.” Finally, one fan penned, “Took away all the good ones… why?”
For those unversed, emotes are a popular tool of communication on Twitch. There are generic emotes available for everybody. Additionally, there are custom-made emotes for each streamer that only work on that streamer’s channel. This includes IronMouse’s IronMouseLuv, Kai Cenat’s StreamerU, and Ibai’s King World Cup, which have vanished from the platform.
According to Dexerto, Twitch added IronMouse’s emote, IronMouseLuv, for November’s VTuber Week. Additionally, Kai Cenat’s Streamer University, or StreamerU, and Mafiathon3 concluded in May and October, respectively. Hence, it makes sense for the platform to remove them, perhaps to make way for a new batch of fan-favorite emotes.
Interestingly, livestreaming reporter Zack Bussey first shared the news on X. He wrote, “Twitch just did a massive Global Emote Purge. The oldest emote removed dates back to 2021.” He continued, “Pure speculation, but many of these look like third-party characters that maybe they had some sort of licensing deal with… so that is one possible reason for this purge.”
It appears that certain emotes were part of brand collaborations and sponsorship deals, which have since ended. This is why Twitch wiped out emotes connected to McDonald’s, EA SPORTS FC, Star Wars, and Fall Guys.
