5 Ways Gamers Can Survive The Emotional Fallout Of the 2016 Presidential Election

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, this election cycle has been an emotional affair. Social media is ablaze with opinions, and it's not a fun place to spend time.

Here at GameRevolution we stay out of politics, but do want to offer some consoling in this case for those who need it. Many of you are looking to escape into the world of gaming, so maybe you can try one of the following.

Listen to Video Game Music

You need something energetic and upbeat to settle your spirits. There are a lot of options to choose from, but any of the following should work:

For the love of all that's holy don't listen to the Final Fantasy VII Aeris Theme or Final Fantasy X To Zanarkand. As a matter of fact, just avoid Final Fantasy altogether.

Play Something Addictive

What you need is something that will pass the time and keep your brain preoccupied from experiencing the real world. There are a lot of choices you have, one of which is Civilization VI. Hours will pass in the blink of an eye as you guide your empire to the promised land. Alternatively, any MMO will work, including World of Warcraft or EVE Online.

If you're a console gamer, then you can look at FPS titles such as Battlefield 1 or Titanfall 2 for some healthy online entertainment. Final Fantasy XIV and The Elder Scrolls Online are two great picks as well.

Watch a Livestream

Maybe you're looking for a more passive experience. On Twitch you can find thousands of people who are going through this together. Just about every game you can think of is represented, although many of the most entertaining streamers gravitate toward the big games like League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

There are professional gaming tournaments and even gaming talk shows to tune into as well. These are a great way to make sure your brain is preoccupied with gaming.

Play Local Multiplayer

Look, you probably need someone to talk to. You should consider having a friend over to play a game or two. Fan favorites include Rocket League, Borderlands 2, and Towerfall: Ascension. A full list of great titles on PS4 can be found here.

Be sure to bring some snacks and drinks.

Go On a Shopping Spree

You're in-luck. It's November, and there are a ton of great deals on games and hardware. There is no better time to clear your wallet on your search of finding materialistic happiness.

Target has a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal that many gamers have been happy with. There are also big daily deals going on between now and the end of the month. Or, you may just want to wait for Black Friday, which will include the following deals:

  • Nintendo 3DS – $99
  • PS4 Bundles – $249+
  • Xbox One Bundles – $229+

A virtual reality headset might not be such a bad idea if you don't have one already. Just be sure to keep it on until you feel better.
