March was a big month for new releases, with Far Cry 5, Ni no Kuni 2 and Sea of Thieves each eating up our free time by a considerable amount. April is comparatively slower, as while God of War releases later this month, there aren’t many major releases until then. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a selection of exciting games launching this month that may have previously slipped under your radar.
Highlighted below are the games we’re most interested in playing over the course of the next week, along with the rest of the new releases that you can buy:
Extinction (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
Release Date: April 10
Extinction sees players battling 150-foot tall ogres in third-person, free-flowing combat that’s reminiscent of Attack on Titan. The ogres in question are randomly generated, meaning each one comes equipped with different armor that you need to break down before you go to work on their various body parts.
You can chop off individual limbs in Extinction, bringing these towering beasts to the ground after chopping off a limb or two, and the impressive agility of the player-character means that you can leap between trees and buildings without ever touching the floor.
Call of Duty WW2 – War Machine DLC (PS4)
Release Date: April 10
The Call of Duty WW2 War Machine DLC is the second map pack for Activision’s blockbuster FPS, bringing with it three new regular multiplayer maps, a new War mode map, and a brand new zombies map.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting some new content for Call of Duty WW2, and it looks like developer Sledgehammer Games is going to deliver its most impressive DLC package to date, with many excited to learn that its War map will include dogfighting. Yes, for the very first time, the game will allow players to take to the skies and shoot down rival planes.
The DLC will be released on PS4 30 days before its launch on Xbox One and PC, so only PS4 owners will be able to download it this week.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (Xbox One)
Release Date: April 11
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will make its way to the Xbox One this month, after releasing on the PS4 and PC last year. Achieving widespread critical praise and performing better than expected in terms of sales, Hellblade focuses on hero Senua’s struggles with psychosis offered a unique concept for a video game, while its brutal and challenging combat gave players something to sink their teeth into outside of its compelling story.
Owlboy (PS4, Xbox One)
Release Date: April 10
Owlboy is an exceptional platformer that is finally making its way to the PS4 and Xbox One, with the Metroidvania game releasing digitally on PSN and Xbox Live this week, before receiving a physical release on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch next month. Owlboy was widely praised back in 2016 for its fluid platforming gameplay and beautiful visuals, and while it’s taken a while to come to the PS4 and Xbox One, it’s better late than never. We can’t wait to replay it on consoles.
