The unimaginatively named BackSupport Office Chair BS10 is the latest premium office chair from Flexispot. While the company is best known for its range of standing desks — and even exercise chairs — we’ve previously reviewed and liked the orange BS9 office chair Flexispot had to offer, so hopefully the more advanced BS10 will be even better… even if it’s a bit less colorful. How did my postman carry this

The Flexispot BS10 comes in a large and very heavy box, and the one we received had been opened and resealed as if the box wasn’t strong enough to contain the chair — luckily, nothing was missing. It was all pretty straightforward and all the parts were separated neatly, with the two hex key tools being long and easy to hold, so that made putting everything together painless.

The instructions could do with a little work, however. There are only five steps across three tiny pages and the pictures are quite cramped and accompanied with some odd English issues like the frequent use of the word “first” and lines like “stroke the head fixing plate.” It’s all fairly straightforward, fortunately, and can be done by one person in around 30 minutes, assuming you don’t accidentally install the underside chassis the wrong way the first time, which I did! I blame the unclear picture in the second step, but your mileage may vary.

To boldly go

After putting the Flexispot BS10 office chair together, the mix of grey and beige makes it a little dull to look at but the design actually makes it look Star Trek-like. The little armrests, roughly 65 cm tall back, and adjustable headrest do make it seem like something off the bridge of the Enterprise. Flexispot calls this a “modern look” and it certainly works for me, despite the simple color scheme.

After a couple of weeks of putting the BS10 to work, my body has pretty much molded into the frame. It’s generally very comfortable, with a surprising amount of options for adjustment and, although it’s hard to tell how much effect the “modern lumbar support” back guard had, my back did feel well supported at all times.

Nevertheless, the BS10 does have some quirks, starting with the controls. The adjustable headrest was fine enough, but the much-advertised “multifunctional handles” took some getting used to. There was the traditional seat-lift lever but also handles on each side that have different functions depending on how they’re twisted.

Twist one in a direction and the seat cushion moves forward, but other directions alter the height, the backrest, and the angle of the seat, the latter of which isn’t mentioned in the manual. The second I locked in “vaguely comfortable” I swore never to touch them again.

Sit tight

The same goes for the armrests and the back in that they are highly adjustable, but it’s slightly awkward to do so. The armrests can be raised to six different heights, but users have to go through all of them slowly until it resets, as opposed to just pulling them up and down.

Overall, the chair is extremely comfortable but the most annoying thing is that the armrests and the back move a lot, not just for adjustment but also from side to side as if very loose, even though they were tightly screwed in. Sometimes the chair could feel like it was about to fall apart.

Flexispot BS10 Chair Review: The final verdict

At around $540 (£399), the Flexispot BS10 is a surprisingly pricey product for what, on the surface level, seems to be a neat but straightforward office chair. There are a lot of cool little features for the money, including the headrest, lumbar support, and decent-sized armrests, all of which are adjustable.

The Flexispot BS10 is an undoubtedly comfortable chair with good back support, and it looks attractive in a straightforward way too, but many gaming users might prefer a chair that felt a bit more solid for this price, as the BS10 feels a bit too loose for its own good. A totally acceptable purchase, then, but not really a challenger for the better gaming chairs out there, especially at this high price point.
