XGIMI Horizon Pro Review: ‘A 4K Projector With the Power To Shine Outdoors’

XGIMI HORIZON PRO 4K PROJECTOR REVIEW.

In my previous XGIMI projector reviews, I’ve focused more on the mid-range products that provide a nice balance between power and affordability. I’ve come to learn that this brand is a go-to for must-have features at very competitive prices. But what if you want to push the boat out a little more and get something that supports higher resolutions, is brighter, with great built-in sound, fantastic connectivity options, and more? Well, you get the XGIMI Horizon Pro.

Set up and go

XGIMI Horizon Pro

After enjoying the standard XGIMI unboxing experience, with premium materials used to house and protect the product through the shipping process, I initially set the Horizon Pro up in my living room. This is where I test all projectors that I review, allowing for the best comparison between models.

The setup process is as easy as ever, with the Horizon Pro boasting Auto Focus, Auto Keystone Correct, Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance, and Intelligent Screen Alignment. These features all come together in a way that makes set up the simple case of plopping the projector down and then letting it auto-calibrate. Manual settings are available for fine-tuning, but I had no reason to use them.

4K, I choose you!

XGIMI Horizon Pro

The XGIMI Horizon Pro is the first 4K projector I’ve used, so I was understandably blown away by the crispness permitted by the 3840x2160p output. Even at larger display sizes, images retain their sharpness and it’s fantastic to see 4K now being adopted more widely by projectors that don’t have to devastate the wallet quite so much.

We’ve had some extremely warm evenings here in the UK and escaping outdoors is almost mandatory for the humid nights. This, combined with how easy it is to move and set up the projector in a new spot, inspired me to take the Horizon Pro into the garden. I pointed it at the almost white wall of my house and beamed Avengers: Endgame beyond 120″. It was glorious! What’s more, the built-in speakers pleasantly surprised me with their quality output.

Light it up

XGIMI Horizon Pro

With support for 2200 ANSI Lumens and a sharp image size up to 200″, the XGIMI Horizon Pro has impressive specs that should please projector fans looking for the next logical upgrade, or those looking to dive in at the deeper end with a more future-proofed unit.

When I was done with Disney Plus content, I tried Netflix. This app can be hit and miss with projectors and, unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to work with the Horizon Pro without going through a laborious workaround that most users will not be patient enough for. Thankfully, the Horizon Pro works with Fire TV Sticks, so I just plugged in my 4K version and it worked great. Aside from the Netflix woes, Android TV works superbly well on the Horizon Pro, with snappy performance across the board.

Oh yes, it can game!

XGIMI Horizon Pro

Moving away from movie and TV content, I’d like to talk about gaming at 4K on the Horizon Pro. With a Game Mode supporting latency as low as a claimed 35ms, playing The Last of Us Part 1 during my review process was simply majestic.

HDR support also helps with this game, as there are many darker areas with bright lights cutting through them, as well as the potential for rich colors in the overgrown city environments, but don’t expect a projector’s HDR quality to compare to a premium TV’s HDR quality. Still, it looks fantastic!

XGIMI Horizon Pro Review: The final verdict

XGIMI Horizon Pro

At $1899 (though frequently on sale, including right now), the XGIMI Horizon Pro is one of the more expensive projectors out there targeting everyday consumers. However, with the highlighted specs of 4K and 2200 ANSI Lumens, combined with built-in features like Android TV and high-quality speakers, there’s a lot of bang for all of those bucks. It’s also competitively priced when compared to competitors armed with similar specs.

Most impressive to me is the Horizon Pro’s ability to shine outdoors. The easy setup and ability to work totally standalone compels me to take it outside for some incredible larger-than-life cinematic experiences.
